Alan So Director and Resident Curator

Alan So has been creating and supporting innovative art for over 10 years. He believes art is a cultural revolution and catalyst for enlightenment-- one that evokes thought and inspires action. He pursues this revolution with intense fervor giving people progressive ideas and tools to better live, think, and interact with the world around them, one mind at a time.

Alan is a multi-talented artist, curator, producer and designer. An advocate of art, Alan has intersected his many skills to become the creative visonary and founder of MEDIATE NETWORK, a forum for diverse artists to create and disseminate works to a world in desperate need of innovative ideas. With MEDIATE, he organizes and curates provocative exhibitions and events with a diverse array of local and international artists

In 1998, Alan conceived of, produced and curated The.ME.Project, inviting visual, media and literary artists from Canada, Europe and the US to explore perspectives in the human condition. Four years later, the online exhibition was finally completed and garnered recognition for its provocative content and innovative web design from as far way as New Zealand, Brazil and Asia.

In 2002, Alan conceived of the next frontier in artistic exploration: Sound. Project>Soundwave was born, bringing together musicians, sound artists and composers from the local Bay Area and from around the world to challenge and explore their unique perspectives in sound. The project produced CDs and an event series titled the Soundwave>Series (most recently completing a successful sold-out 2nd season in the Summer 2006). He and his work on Soundwave have been featured on PBS, UK's Resonance FM and SFWeekly and on prestigious new music and art programs, including BBC Radio, KUSF, KPFA, KALX and NPR, amoungst others.

As an artist and curator, Alan is concerned with issues of identity, social structure and place and is interested in the exploration of ideas and the experimentation of materials. He has exhibited his work in the US and Canada and has organized exhibitions and events Online, in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area and his native Canada.

As a multi-faceted professional designer, Alan uses his experience and talents to invite the public and engage audiences in the new and challenging experiences and ideas of ME'D1.ATE. His diverse design portfolio includes work with art institutions, sports teams, government agencies, technology firms, retail products, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies developing intriguing award-winning work for print, packaging, interactive and motion graphic applications. He has worked with branding and advertistising agencies to design firms and video game companies in the US and Canada. Alan holds a Bachelor of Design from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada.
