Alan So Director
and Resident Curator
 
Alan So has been creating and supporting innovative
art for over 10 years. He believes art is a cultural revolution
and catalyst for enlightenment-- one that evokes thought and
inspires action. He pursues this revolution with intense fervor
giving people progressive ideas and tools to better live,
think, and interact with the world around them, one mind at
a time.
Alan is a multi-talented artist, curator, producer
and designer. An advocate of art, Alan has intersected his
many skills to become the creative visonary and founder of
MEDIATE NETWORK, a forum for diverse artists to create and
disseminate works to a world in desperate need of innovative
ideas. With MEDIATE, he organizes and curates provocative
exhibitions and events with a diverse array of local and international
artists
In 1998, Alan conceived of, produced and curated
The.ME.Project, inviting visual, media and literary artists
from Canada, Europe and the US to explore perspectives in
the human condition. Four years later, the online exhibition
was finally completed and garnered recognition for its provocative
content and innovative web design from as far way as New Zealand,
Brazil and Asia.
In 2002, Alan conceived of the next frontier
in artistic exploration: Sound. Project>Soundwave was born,
bringing together musicians, sound artists and composers from
the local Bay Area and from around the world to challenge
and explore their unique perspectives in sound. The project
produced CDs and an event series titled the Soundwave>Series
(most recently completing a successful sold-out 2nd season
in the Summer 2006). He and his work on Soundwave have been
featured on PBS, UK's Resonance FM and SFWeekly and on prestigious
new music and art programs, including BBC Radio, KUSF, KPFA,
KALX and NPR, amoungst others.
As an artist and curator, Alan is concerned
with issues of identity, social structure and place and is
interested in the exploration of ideas and the experimentation
of materials. He has exhibited his work in the US and Canada
and has organized exhibitions and events Online, in New York
City, the San Francisco Bay Area and his native Canada.
As a multi-faceted professional designer, Alan
uses his experience and talents to invite the public and engage
audiences in the new and challenging experiences and ideas
of ME'D1.ATE. His diverse design portfolio includes work with
art institutions, sports teams, government agencies, technology
firms, retail products, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies
developing intriguing award-winning work for print, packaging,
interactive and motion graphic applications. He has worked
with branding and advertistising agencies to design firms
and video game companies in the US and Canada. Alan holds
a Bachelor of Design from the Emily Carr Institute of Art
and Design in Vancouver, Canada.
