MEDIATE Art Group is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization creating innovative art and music experiences through the activation of people, places and environments. Through live exhibitions and events, MEDIATE’s mission is to inspire local and nationally-recognized artists, and audiences to look deep into ideas and works critically, imaginatively and without limitation. Artist participation and collaborations have also reached across the United States and Canada as well as Portugal, United Kingdom, Belgium, Norway, Singapore, France, Costa Rica, Austria, Australia and Japan bringing new insights to local communities and neighborhoods. Founded in 1998, MEDIATE has been showcasing provocative works to Bay Area audiences for over 10 years including five seasons of the acclaimed avant-art and music program and biennial festival, Soundwave, that explore the infinite connections through sound. STAFF


Alan So Founder, Executive & Artistic Director
Alan is an artist, designer, and cultural producer supporting innovative art for 15 years. He founded MEDIATE in 1998 and led its incorporation in 2011 to give diverse artists a forum to create and disseminate works to a world in desperate need of innovative ideas. In 2002, Alan started what is now known as Soundwave and has been a guest speaker at educational institutions and conferences such as the California College of the Arts, DIY Workshops, and the Symposium of Independent Arts and review panelist for the City of Oakland’s Cultural Funding Program. His work has been featured on PBS, San Francisco Magazine (Best of 2007 Award), SF Chronicle, SF Bay Guardian, 7×7, SFWeekly, BBC Radio, NPR, amongst others.

Jorge Bachmann Technical Director & Resident Artist/Curator
Jorge is a sculpture, photo-based and sound artist. Since the early 80’s, he has collected field recordings and exhibited and performed across North America, Europe, Japan and South America. He is the co-founding member of the MEI.collectiv and has created works for the MoBu Dance Group and the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, amongst others. Jorge began as a performing artist in Soundwave ((1)) in 2004 and became Technical Director and Resident Artist/Curator in 2005.

Lillian Le Production Director
Lillian is an art and music afficianado and has been a Project Manager at many dynamic companies in health and technology over the past 10 years. She is currently Project Manager at Shutterfly. She started as a Soundwave volunteer in 2008. Since 2009, she has managed all MEDIATE productions, keeping the team on task and on schedule. Lillian is responsible for festival organizers’ tasks and schedules, artist and vendor needs and contracts.

Estelle Fabre Event Manager
Estelle knows how to make things happen. By day, she is a design consultant and manager for Helga Horner Interior Design. By night, she makes MEDIATE events come to life, managing over 40 events since 2006.
Britta Janssen Britta Janssen, Development Manager
Britta has worked in cultural institutions in Germany, France and Scotland before she joined the Soundwave volunteer team in 2012. She is now coordinating and overseeing MEDIATE’s resource development activities including grant and foundation support, donor relations and sponsorship. Britta works as a volunteer at Stanford’s International Center and the Cantor Center for the Arts.

Scott is passionate about dance, theater, music, and other performance-based art and moved into the nonprofit sector after many years as an auditor. As MEDIATE’s Administrative Manager, Scott supports and helps coordinate  events and operational activities.  He interned at Intersection for the Arts focusing on their Fiscal Sponsorship program and volunteered with the 24 Days of Central Market Arts Festival providing administrative and event support.  Scott holds a Masters in Public Administration from SF State University.

MEDIATE presents San Francisco's festival of innovative sound, art, and music every two years for two months. Bringing together purveyors from across the sonic spectrum, Soundwave produces experiential performances that will challenge the way you see and hear sound and music.
